Canadian Society for Virology – Awards Recognizing Outstanding Work by Canadian Virologists and Virology Trainees

Virology is an essential research discipline where discoveries have impacted all areas of biological, environmental, industrial, and clinical science. Canadian scientists are at the cutting edge of critical research discoveries, that have driven the field of virology forward and impacting the international knowledge base. We, the executive committee of the Canadian Society for Virology, have established the CSV Awards to recognize the contributions of Canadians virologists. Together, these awards aim to support virologists at all career stages through recognition of their research, mentoring, and scientific outreach efforts.

Trainee Awards

 

  1. Annual MSc and PhD Student Outstanding Progress Award (4 per year)

These awards are given to recognize the outstanding progress of two MSc (currently enrolled or up to 4 months from graduation) and two PhD (currently enrolled or up to 6 months from graduation) students studying in Canada in the field of virology. The applicants will be evaluated on criteria including published abstracts and papers, technological and translational achievements and/or other impactful scientific contributions, and science outreach. Applicants and their supervisors must be members of the CSV. Awardees will be recognized with a certificate, a research bio post featured on the CSV website, and a cash prize of $500. Awardees are encouraged to attend the 2022 bi-annual CSV conference.

To apply for the Outstanding Progress Awards please send a 500-word lay summary of your thesis proposal and impact, a CV (maximum 5 pages), and two letters of support (from current and/or past supervisors) as a combined PDF to cansocvirol@gmail.com by January 14th 2022. Awards will be announced by February 1st, 2022.

 

  1. Postdoctoral Award (1 per year)

This award is given to recognize the outstanding progress and prospects of a Postdoctoral researcher in Canada in the field of virology. Applicants must be members of the CSV and will be evaluated on criteria such as published abstracts and papers, technological and translational achievements and/or impactful scientific contributions, and science outreach. The awardee will be recognized with a certificate, a research bio post featured on the CSV website, and a cash prize of $500. The Awardee is encouraged to attend the 2022 bi-annual CSV conference and deliver a seminar of their award-winning work at an appropriate session.

To apply for the Postdoctoral Award, please send a 500-word lay summary of your postdoctoral research, a 300-word statement about how your work contributes to your career goals and why you are interested in the award, a CV (max 5 pages), and two recommendation letters (from current and/or past supervisors) to cansocvirol@gmail.com by January 14th 2022, in a combined PDF document . Awards will be announced by February 1st, 2022.
